Olympics 2016 Activities for Kids
The 2016 Rio Olympics have landed! Excitement levels are high here at Trunkaroo HQ. If you love the spirit of the Olympics like we do then the global sporting events present a perfect opportunity to captivate your little ones with a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) projects.
How about making some Olympics flags to wave when cheering on your favourite athletes and countries? Design a flag using paint, tissue paper or crayons and mount onto a lolly stick. Kids can choose the Olympic flag, their favourite county or, better yet, use their imagination and invent their own flag! We love this Olympic flag garland craft idea by smallforbig.
No sports-themed activity is complete without some Olympic themed snacks! Decorate ring-shaped biscuits with different colours of icing or sweets to make the five Olympic rings. This is an ideal opportunity to talk about how each ring represents a different continent. Here are our favourite biscuits from Catch My Party:
Once you have flags and snacks at the ready you can get the family together to watch your favourite events. Make sure you have an atlas or iPad on hand to look up the different countries together!
Team Trunkaroo have felt so inspired by the Olympics this year that we have created a Sports Day Trunk! This special summer trunk is packed with projects, puzzles and experiments, with a fun sports theme guaranteed to get everyone moving.
The shiny medal making project is great way to get children involved in the Olympics hullabaloo, whilst developing their fine motor skills, artistic expression and creative thinking. You can use the medals afterwards in your own Sports Day or Home Olympics games! By engaging in STEAM inspired projects you’ll make sure the Rio Olympics are an event your child will never forget.
